"We are the party of the Constitution, the solemn compact which confirms our God-given individual rights and assures that all Americans stand equal before the law. Perhaps the greatest political document ever written, it defines the purposes and limits of government and is the blueprint for ordered liberty that makes the U.S. the world’s freest, most stable, and most prosperous nation. Its Constitutional ideals have been emulated around the world, and with them has come unprecedented prosperity for billions of people.
In the spirit of the Constitution, we consider discrimination based on sex, race, age, religion, creed, disability, or national origin unacceptable and immoral. We will strongly enforce anti-discrimination statutes and ask all to join us in rejecting the forces of hatred and bigotry and in denouncing all who practice or promote racism, anti-Semitism, ethnic prejudice, or religious intolerance. We support efforts to help low-income individuals get a fair chance based on their potential and individual merit; but we reject preferences, quotas, and set-asides as the best or sole methods through which fairness can be achieved, whether in government, education, or corporate boardrooms. In a free society, the primary role of government is to protect the God-given, inalienable, inherent rights of its citizens, including the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Merit, ability, aptitude, and results should be the factors that determine advancement in our society.
The Republican Party includes Americans from every faith and tradition, and our policies and positions respect the right of every American to follow his or her beliefs and underscore our reverence for the religious freedom envisioned by the Founding Fathers of our nation and of our party. As a matter of principle, we oppose the creation of any new race-based governments within the United States.
The Republican Party supports advancement in innovation, creativity and commerce. We need to start growing local jobs instead of Washington’s jobs. We believe these goals are achieved with less government control of American industries. The federal government’s excessive regulatory burdens stifle America’s free market economy. Pro-growth policies and sensible regulation can help private companies to innovate and create jobs and enable our economy to thrive. The best anti-poverty program is a job, so our focus should be on creating opportunity, not dependency.
“We who live in free market societies believe that growth, prosperity and ultimately human fulfillment, are created from the bottom up, not the government down. Only when the human spirit is allowed to invent and create, only when individuals are given a personal stake in deciding economic policies and benefiting from their success – only then can societies remain economically alive, dynamic, progressive, and free. Trust the people. This is the one irrefutable lesson of the entire postwar period contradicting the notion that rigid government controls are essential to economic development.” – President Ronald Reagan
It is our responsibility to ensure that our children receive a world-class education that maximizes their potential. Quality education is essential to achieving the American Dream. The Republican Party believes that every child should have an equal opportunity to get a great education — regardless of their zip code or their parents’ income. We support school choice programs that allow students to escape failing schools that raise the standard of education excellence through competition. The Republican Party believes education reform is critical to the equal opportunity of every young American.
When student loan debt exceeds the nation’s credit card debt, we must recognize that our higher education system is on an unsustainable path. The Republican Party supports an education system that provides families with greater transparency and more information so they can make prudent choices about each student’s future. We support exploring alternative methods to the traditional four-year university, because too many college graduates are being left underemployed or unemployed.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Responsible production of America’s vast natural resources is necessary to achieve energy independence from foreign suppliers. Our energy policy should encourage investment, lower prices, and create jobs here at home. We support domestic energy production of clean coal and hydropower, as well as solar, wind, geothermal and nuclear power. And we support drilling for oil and natural gas in an environmentally responsible way. President Obama has pushed for overly restrictive EPA regulations that have cost American consumers and businesses tens of billions of dollars. Republicans have consistently voted for job creation in the energy sector through their support of the Keystone Pipeline and continued opposition to Obama’s “War on Coal.”
In order to fix health care, we need to start fresh so that patients and their doctors, not Washington, make health care decisions. The Republican Party supports common-sense health care reforms that will lower costs, ensure quality care that Americans deserve and end lawsuit abuse. ObamaCare negatively affects the physician-patient relationship, reduces competition and damages health care quality and choice. President Obama earned the "lie of the year" because of his ObamaCare claim that "if you like your health care plan you can keep it," and now the American people are losing their health care plans and seeing their costs increase dramatically. We oppose government-run health care and seek to protect the liberty of American patients."
